I think that turning vegetables into fake meat burns a lot more resources than just making vegetables tasty.
Maybe, but only if you think of this as an end game. I view it as the beginning of a revolution. I'm happy to see the demand, because it will fuel innovation, which may include better methods of achieving the same goal. It may also help develop what I think is a very exciting idea: actually growing real meat from actual cells in a lab environment without attaching it to an animal that has to be slaughtered.

Thinks of this as a bridge that helps bring the mainstream over to eating less meat, and maybe someday, full vegetarianism. I think anything that saves animal lives is worthwhile.

For some reason this makes me think of Star Trek.

It's a real thing.

And many people think we're on the cusp of totally redefining how we source food, moving away from live animal models. Who knows how we'll actually get there, probably something nobody really knows about yet. But it's cool to at least be on the journey.

The meat substitute products are really cool. If they can make them efficiently enough to match prices of meat and taste the same, I will not hesitate to become vegan for environmental purposes mostly.

I guess it's good that people have options. Going vegan can be good for health reasons depending on how you approach it but the "saving the environment" mantra is just skewd spin to better market their products.
