My family and I will be moving to GA and I am looking for some input and advice on Smyrna. I have seen some previous comments about that area, but those were old posts and I am sure the area has change in 5 years. What are the good parts or neighborhoods? This area looks like a good compromise for commuting time into the ATL area, but I am open to other suggestions. The obvious is a safe area (who doesn't want that?), but I am also looking for an area that is family-friendly, has "retail accommodations" (i.e. variety of grocery stores) and a good neighborhood. I have seen that budget helps with suggestions, so for a house, I don't want to spend more than $300k. I saw the Forest Hills area of Smyrna as an option. Is that area any good. TIA!

It's mostly all nice. Parts of the Spring Rd, S Cobb Dr, and Windy Hill corridors have really old apartments and so a bit rougher around the edges that comes with that.

But most of the rest of the city's area is quite upscale SFH, that you get for half the price as ITP and in-town areas, but also still by no means cheap.

Smyrna is indeed a good or a reasonable car commute to most areas. It's only about as far from from Downtown/Midtown as Chamblee which is ITP. No MARTA train access on this side of town though, besides way down on I-20. Lower taxes, though.

Definitely very family-friendly, definitely lots of great grocery stores with lots of parking. And it is a safe and diverse area that is really average and neither particularly culturally liberal or conservative.

With you're budget, might want to look at areas of Kennesaw and Woodstock as well

Depending on your office location, Smyrna may be significantly closer than some of the other locations mentioned. Areas on the south of Smryna have access to 285 and 75. My wife and I have held jobs in downtown, Marietta, Peachtree corners, and midtown - none of those commutes was unbearable.

It's a nice area but maybe outside your budget. Mableton may be a better fit.
