After living here for over five years, I have to say that I am not terribly surprised by this and am certainly proud to call this city home. It has a fantastic sense of community.

It doesn't surprise me. You've got a lot of good folks up there in Cobb.

Of course.

"Red" cities tend to be more generous in their giving as they choose who & what to give to. "Blue" cities, otoh, take from you and decide who gets what.

Which sounds better to you?

Marietta is not a "red" city.

Marietta is far from red.

Somerville, MA and Cambridge, MA (my hometown) made the list at #5 and #9 respectively, both which happen to be the top 5 most liberal "blue" cities in New England, if not the Northeast. Therefore, your argument is invalid. Thanks for playing.

Yup. And Marietta is blue, as are both Santa Monica and Oakland. I suspect that Rockville MD and Beaverton OR are, as well.

Because people seem to often use their mailing address when making donations through a platform like "GoFundMe," with the entire area with a Marietta mailing address including both decidedly Democratic-leaning zip codes such as 30060 and 30008, traditionally decidedly Republican-leaning zip codes such as 30068 and 30062 as well as more 'purple' zip codes as 30067, 30066 and 30064...

… And with all donations from Marietta as a whole likely not just coming from the area within the boundaries of the city of Marietta proper, but also from the entire area with a Marietta mailing address (which includes large swaths of surrounding unincorporated Cobb County)…

… BOTH Democrats and Republicans, and BOTH progressives and conservatives, along with independents, most assuredly are responsible for helping to make Marietta (a community with a mailing area that has decidedly blue, decidedly red and noticeably purple areas within its entire mailing area) the generous community in America in 2019 on GoFundMe.

Marietta 30066 is a traditionally Republican-dominated (or 'red') zip code that appears to be trending heavily Democratic (or 'blue'), particularly at the southwest end of the zip code below Piedmont Road and closer to I-75 and US 41 (within the part of the zip code that is served by Sprayberry High School), but appears to remain heavily Republican throughout much of the northern end of the zip code, particularly within the part of the zip code that is served by Lassiter High School.

… That by definition (a redder/Republican-heavy north end and a bluer/Democratic-trending south end) appears to be a 'purple' or 'purplish' area.

Clinton won Cobb in state loss. So how'd your neighbors vote? (Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 9 Nov 2016)

Cobb turns blue, again (Marietta Daily Journal, 7 Nov 2018)
