On Monday, December 16th, the Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted to name the East Cobb Senior Center in honor of controversial late former Cobb Chairman Tim Lee.

The center will be named the "Tim D. Lee Senior Center."

Members of Lee's family were in attendance at Monday's Cobb BoC meeting to posthumously honor the late chairman.

Lee's tenure as Cobb County Commission Chairman was controversial because of his work that resulted in the Braves leaving the City of Atlanta to move to a brand new stadium complex in Cobb County after only about 20 years at Turner Field.

Many (especially in Cobb County and suburban Northwest metro Atlanta economic development circles) view Lee as one of Cobb's greatest visionary leaders of all time for pushing to bring the Atlanta Braves and Major League Baseball to Cobb County.

While many others (including some Cobb County taxpayer watchdog groups and many City of Atlanta residents) view Lee in a much less favorable light for using hundreds-of-millions of dollars of public money to fund the construction of a new stadium to lure a professional sports team from neighboring Atlanta.
