I second this one. There's tons of stuff that turns out to be much more practical to buy on the internet. You save a lot of time and aggravation, as well as gas, by not driving to stores. If the vendor is out-of-state you often save the sales tax. There are many items for which a photo and description is quite enough information for a purchasing decision, without needing to see and touch a physical sample.

Vendors often have free shipping offers, too. We bought our lawnmower from Sears over the internet, during a free shipping special. We really didn't need to drive to the mall, select a mower in person and lug the big box home in our car.

Yes - when the gas prices go up here in Peachtree City , the golf cart sees alot more use for trips to the grocery store , the park, resturants , you name it.

Thats actually a good idea. I was just talking about internet shopping with a friend of mine. What are some of the best companies to shop with online?

I only use my car for work. Everything else I use the train. 13 bucks Unlimited Rides. Easy access to Lenox Mall, Lindberg Center, Peachtree Center etc. I only use my car to make money. Never to spend it.

I just purchased a refurbished 37" Vizio LCD television (VX37L) on the internet (BUY.COM), and not only did it have free shipping, but they also offer in-home service contacts if you want to pay for one.

I've purchased all sorts of things on the net over the years, from books and music to more serious things like stereo components and computers, and I haven't purchased software from a brick-and-mortar store for several years now.

I have noticed a reduction in traffic; albeit, a small reduction. That certainly puts a grin on my face.

take the bus from Acworth to Downtown 3-4 days a week, work from home 1-2 days....but I've been doing that.

g/f hasn't changed her habits as she drives into Buckhead and also travels for work.

This is pretty much how I've reacted. I don't have kids, but same thing applies as to errands -- I try to plan out several that are in the same direction, especially if it's a little further out than very local to my home. Just like you, I used to run out on any little whim at any time to go anywhere, without a second thought. Well, those days are over.

My husband however is a different story -- 30 miles to go have really good Mexican food on a Sunday, no problem. UGH! And this with our monthly gas bill with him going to work hitting at least $800, not including my driving.

Oh, I'm in CA, not GA. Same sprawl applies, though.

made me wonder, as we live in one of the most disconnected, transit deficient, sprawled out cities in the WORLD, how many people are changing their habits?

is there anyone out there it doesnt really affect?

just wondering..
I don't drive. Don't have a license(never bothered to get one), don't have a car and I walk everywhere for the most part(and get rides from other if the occasion is needed). My worry is that my father went and got a gas guzzler and even the rise in gas prices won't make him reconsider getting a smaller vehicle. How I live in metro Atlanta without a car? I have managed for a while.
