ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The sky was blue, the sun was rising, and as the death toll from the coronavirus continued to soar across much of America, the fountains switched on in Avalon, a development of restaurants and shops in a wealthy corner of suburban Atlanta. It was time for life to resume, Georgia’s governor had decided, so a masked worker swept the threshold of Chanel. A clerk brushed off windows at Fab’rik that had been gathering dust. A gardener fluffed pink roses in planters along the sidewalks, where signs on doors said what so many had been waiting to hear...

Somewhat caricatured. In fact, a lot so.

VPN will fix those paywall blues for the most part.

Try typing the headline in the search engine and click from there. If that doesn't work, I'll ask moderator to delete.

Agreed. They are trying to make it sound like the folks up in Alpharetta are a bunch of healthy well-to-do suburbanites who can't be bothered.

Thanks, I ended up reading via another browser. Even a VPN didn’t help inside Safari, likely because I’ve already read a number of WaPo articles.

Given the author’s credentials I’m a bit surprised at the tone and positioning of the piece. It makes it seem like everyone in Georgia (or at least North Fulton) is an uncaring idiot. But maybe those eating out at Avalon already are?

What I didn’t see mentioned was the fact that AMC is still closed, the Apple Store is still closed (her reporting was kind of misleading there), that Whole Foods is limiting the number of people at one time. But that wouldn’t fit her narrative I guess.

I switched browsers to read it. I kind of wish I hadn't. But, it isn't a stretch to think it might be an accurate depiction either.
Somebody on our local neighborhood FB page here in Milton was given a hard time by several posters after asking about rules for restaurants after picking up take out by a place that seemed to be ignoring all the guidelines.

I went out for the first time in weeks today, to pick up something at Lowe's. I was really impressed that a good 75% of shoppers were wearing masks, and following recommended distancing.

I'll continue to do what I can to keep myself and my family safe, and wish the naysayers luck.

I don’t doubt it’s accurately quoted. But it’s selective and there’s no attempt to be neutral and unbiased. That’s what’s disappointing.

Today I went to Costco, Trader Joe’s, Target and Best Buy. I had no concerns in any of them (technically BB was curbside pickup only). I saw employees all wearing masks as well as most of the shoppers.
