I have accepted a teaching position in Duluth. I need to find a safe place to live. I was planning to move to Bridgewater Apartments off of Pleasant Hill Road/Satellite Blvd, but was just told that this was not a safe area. Is the information I received correct? If it is ..... I need safer suggestions .... quickly!

In case you don't get any responses quickly you can call the Duluth police and ask them about crime and complexes you are looking at. You might also ask who hired you or someone at the school you are teaching at for some recommendations.

We just moved from Meritt at Satellite off of Satellite Blvd (obviously) and never had any problems....at all. The further you go down Satellite Blvd, (I believe that would be North...towards the Sugarloaf area) the better. It's right next to a police-like department. I forget what exactly it is, maybe crime prevention office. Either way, it has police cars sitting there which was always nice...even if it's not a police station. Another site that I went to which helped us decide to live there was ratemyapt.com. That is a helpful source.

I am 6 miles from Sugarloaf Parkway. Is that considered close to Sugarloaf? I am not sure how long Satellite Blvd is.

I am also looking to move to Duluth. I am single with a 15year old daughter who plans to attend Duluth High. Are there any reasonable, safe 2 br apartments for about 850-900 per month. Also, what is the commute to Midtown Atlanta like, does marta travels this route.
I know I am asking a lot, but thanks in advance for any advise.

As this is an old thread it might be better to make a new one. Posters might open the thread to the OP and never see your question.

Hopefully someone more familiar with the area will respond but from previous discussions I know apartments along Peachtree Industrial Blvd have been recommended. State Bridge Rd might be a reference point. This is a more northern/western part of Gwinnett which is adjacent to Fulton County/John's Creek, an affluent community.

Pleasant Hill Rd, Satellite Blvd are less safe, IIRC, closer to I85.

You might find alternative routes to midtown that would be less stressful than I85. I think it might take an hour morning and evening from Duluth to Midtown.
