British construction online video channel B1M recently did a profile on Atlanta’s traffic problems, citing pre-COVID congestion statistics.

During their brief profile of Atlanta traffic, the British construction online channel focused in on one particular project, the Georgia Department of Transportation’s construction of collector-distributor lanes along 2 miles of I-75 Northbound between Georgia State Route 331 (Forest Parkway) and Interstate 285 in Clayton County.

Quote:
IN 2019, drivers around Atlanta spent more than 80 hours stuck in traffic; generating pollution and frustration, while costing each of them over USD $1,200 on average.

The nightmare is typical of cities across the US, a country that’s seen infrastructure investment as a share of GDP steadily fall, despite its population growing.

In the absence of a federal plan, Georgia’s capital is now embarking on a multi-billion dollar push to fix its challenges.

But with a city to keep moving, a deep-rooted culture of driving, huge sites spread over several miles and the world’s busiest airport on its doorstep - the task is not exactly straightforward.

It's interesting to see an outside perspective on Atlanta. They seem to focus on different things in the shots.

Didn’t know they were reconstructing I-75 and I-285 interchange near the airport.

Apparently, just the northbound side of I-75 South between GA-331 Forest Parkway and the I-285 South Perimeter.

That is part of a problem stretch of I-75 South northbound between the merging on-ramp from US-19/41 to the I-75 to I-285 eastbound and westbound ramps that is prone to a very high rate of collisions and long traffic delays caused by lots of bobbing and weaving and lane changes of many vehicles within a relatively very short distance.

That collision and traffic delay-prone stretch of I-75 South northbound between the merge from the US-19/41 on-ramp and the I-285 South Perimeter (and especially between Forest Pkwy and I-285 South) is also one of the major reasons that we often may strongly advise many prospective metro Atlanta newcomers against attempting to commute during morning rush hours from Southside outer-suburban areas like McDonough and Locust Grove to major employment hubs/points north like Alpharetta, Perimeter Center, Cumberland, Buckhead, Emory, Midtown Atlanta and often even Downtown Atlanta.

They've been working on 285 in Clayton County for at least two years now. I might even say 3.

Incidentally... this is a promotional video for Bluebeam Software.

That's why the focus isn't on projects, but the digital software helping the teams.

So take everything it says with a grain of salt.
