Which school zone you move into depends on what kind of environment in which you want your children to attend school and what kind of environment you want your family to live in.

Northview has a reputation for being intensely academically competitive and even has a reputation for being academically rigorous in some respects. Northview is also an environment in which Asian students are an increasingly dominant and growing demographic.

(Asian students made up almost 58% of all students enrolled at Northview High School as of October 2020.)

By comparison, Walton has a smaller (but apparently fast-growing) Asian population and has a reputation for being one of the best public high schools in the Southeastern U.S., but also has a reputation for being noticeably competitive in some social circles.

Both schools have great (stellar) reputations.

But, Northview has a reputation for being intensely focused on academics, sometimes at the expense of students’ social development.

While, Walton has a reputation for being more socially well-rounded when compared to a school like Northview. But, Walton also has a reputation for being highly socially competitive in some (though not all) key circles.

Can't go wrong with either one.

Just go with whichever area you find a house you like better. I think you'll find Northview is closer to a large and thriving Indian community, if that's important to you. Meanwhile, homes in the Walton district will be slightly more convenient to the city if you have to commute there.

Why did you narrow it down to only those 2 schools? There are plenty of high schools that are very highly ranked and located in big Indian communities. Just a few- Alpharetta HS, Lambert HS, South Forsyth HS.

The housing market in the northern burbs is super competitive right now, and you'll open up your inventory options if you expand your list of zones.

Spot on!

But, being a long time ATL resident (50+ yrs) I’d choose Fulton County over Cobb any day. I’m sure that statement will be a firestorm for some- but for the yrs I’ve been here, I have my reasons.

I agree with everyone else, as well as the sentiment above. I would not limit myself to just these 2 schools. As an East Cobb resident, Pope, Lassiter, and even Wheeler are all excellent choices as well.

While Walton is diversifying, you're going to have more diversity with the other option.

But as B2R mentioned, in some ways both schools have somewhat of a counter negative reputation as being a "keep up with the Joneses" pressure cooker environment that weighs on the students.
