Hi all. I am a divorced dad looking for low-maintenance living in the general area mentioned in the title.

Basically, I need to be within an easy drive of Allatoona High School. I need a three-bedroom place and I'd prefer it to be under $300,000 but could go a little higher if need be. I am not concerned about having high square footage or a large yard, or any yard necessarily. A couple of important factors: It should be convenient to shopping and amenities, and it shouldn't be too much of a pain to resell six or seven years down the road if need be.

Does anyone have ideas of communities or areas where I could look? I don't know the area well.

You’ve basically hit the nail right on the head in focusing your search on the Acworth, Kennesaw and Marietta communities.

Start your search in areas closest to Allatoona High School in Acworth and, if need be, expand your search as far south as might be needed into nearby areas like Kennesaw and Marietta.

Because the suburban North metro Atlanta residential real estate market has been so intensely competitive at times over the past year, you likely will want to be prepared to act decisively (if not fast) if you find something that you like.

You might also want to consider adding condominiums and apartments to your housing search, both in the event that you potentially might not be able to find anything to purchase in a competitive market and/or to potentially give yourself some time to get to know the area better.

Thanks for your reply! Would you consider Dallas or Powder Springs?

Dallas is a good option because (while covering kind of a relatively large geographical area in the 30157 and 30132 zip codes) it is relatively close by to Allatoona High School and will give you a good (if not even better) chance of finding the type of house that you are looking for within your price range because it is farther out from the metro Atlanta core.

Powder Springs is a really good area to look in as well.

Though, there will be parts of the Powder Springs real estate market where the demand for homes in your price range is likely to be high, particularly north of GA-360 Macland Road in the attendance zone for the highly-rated schools of the Hillgrove High School cluster, and maybe even in some parts of the less highly-rated McEachern High School cluster.
