News to me that Powder Springs is considered "undesirable". It's only gotten better and better in the 2 years we've lived here.

Many people look down their noses at the ‘majority-minority’ part of the Powder Springs area (in the McEachern High School cluster) located south of/below Georgia State Route 360 Macland Road.

I delivered through that area last night. I found the area to be less "homey" the more north we went. The most pleasant part of the trip was in Mableton/Austell. A lot of locally owned places and a South Carolina or Alabama vibe? Did not feel like it was even in Georgia. The south side of Powder Springs was alright— the people were really nice— I got offered something to drink and that never happens! Once we got north of there, going towards Lost Mountain, it got eerie.

If there is a downside, it's that it seems to be constantly busy with traffic. The Dunwoody neighborhoods themselves are sleepy, but anything near the Perimeter is quite hectic.
Thx! It was a traffic nightmare when I lived on the edge of the Perimeter Mall area 25 years ago, so I can imagine what it would be like now. I know major retail areas like that are prone to crime, but I'm hoping its more petty theft, and not much worse.

I disagree with the previous assertion regarding the status of Union City and the SW area of I-285 as I’m in the area daily. The area has a lot of new construction homes in the 400s or so and lots of job growth from logistics companies and while I’m not sure the area will ever be “desirable” in the eyes of the wealthier and educated that spend time in this forum to say it is in decline in simply not true. Would I live in Union City? No, because I prefer to be in a more urban and denser area than what is being built out there, but S Fulton Parkway corridor is changing quite a bit and if anything that corridor is improving ever so slightly, definitely not a decline. At worst the area is stabilizing its current position, rather than declining

That is my impression, too. There's a lot of activity out that way.

Agreed. We've know two couples who've moved to Powder Springs and they are very happy. One of them relocated from Buckhead and the other from Sandy Springs.

Well then the statement should have been clarified that when the statement gets repeated a lot by people not just a few, then maybe things can self fulfill. The source matters too. If it’s local people that live in the area that carries a lot more weight than someone in Idaho.
