No. 3: Atlanta, Ga.

Overall Rank: 98
GRADE = F

By Category:
Foreclosure: 6
Housing Costs: 13
Bankruptcy: 18
Credit Score: 26
Credit Debt: 52
Credit Usage: 42
For overall ranking, lower is better. No. 1 has the least personal debt. For the individual criteria, higher is better. So a city ranked No. 1 is the worst in that category. No. 100 is best.

What has happened to this great city over the years?
Rated near the highest for late bill payments and foreclosures.
Only Aurora,Co and Las Vegas were higher.

America's debt is over $53 trillion.

Atlanta has a debt problem but other cities have problems with the high cost of living, earthquakes, bad weather, fires, floods, etc.

Id take the high debt verses those other issues in other cities anyday of the week

I agree with you! I can rebuild my credit, I can't rebuild my own house once Mother Nature has her way with it.

Well, it is the retail capital of the South.

How does a city get blamed for people making bad personal choices? What is a "debt trap"? While you can't help an unexpected issue with your job that leads to financial hardship, there are plenty of people who just plain made bad decisions and took out questionable loans on property they couldn't afford. Now that they can't pay the bank, is that the fault of a city?

Living within your means and reading before you sign are good habits to get into....anywhere.
