i keep hearing nightmarish tales about atlanta traffic. was just looking for anyone's thoughts on a daily commute from midtown to tucker? would that be terribly difficult. would most likely be heading to tucker around 7:30 am and returning 3:30-4:00. any thoughts will be appreciated. thanks.

Essentially, you would have a reverse commute, but depending on where in Tucker you are, you could be hitting a lot of traffic lights on Ponce or whatever side streets there are until you get to 78 to the Perimeter... Either that, or head north on 85 to Spaghetti Junction and head South on the Perimeter, and you still would be okay.

Default La Vista road

I have heard that La Vista is getting increasingly more difficult, but aside from that you should be ok. Learn the back roads, study the maps and try different routes. Your early to early time should help a lot. After 5:00 it gets much worse!

Lavista backs up horribly going into town in the morning and out of town in the evening but the reverse commute might not be too bad. The Briarlake area might pose a problem since you'll probably hit school traffic at that time of day.

I drive from Tucker to downtown on Ponce De Leon at 7:30-ish. The traffic heading towards Tucker is very light. Since the lights are timed to allow lots of cars to get into town, you should be able to sail down Ponce heading away from town pretty quickly. Once you get to the Tucker area there are lots of ways to get to Lavista Road. I'd suggest getting a street map and trying a bunch of different ways until you find the fastest/easiest one.

You could do this and cut over to LaVista on McLendon Rd...when it crosses Lawrenceville Hwy it becomes Frazier Rd...Frazier then dead ends into LaVista, where you'd hang a right towards the Northlake area.

That might be a good idea...take Ponce/Scott/29 to McLendon and cut over to Lavista.

Lavista isn't a great road to travel along....

I don't know where on Lavista the job is, but if the job is on Lavista OUTSIDE of 285, I'd stay on 29/Lawrenceville Highway until you cross 285 and then cut over to Lavista using Northlake Parkway. Traffic on Lavista near 285 can get very thick.

That's a good idea; you also avoid the Briarlake Elem. backup by taking that route as well. My guess is that the OP's job is somewhere in the Northlake area.
I think Northlake Pkwy becomes Cooledge Rd on the other side of LaVista, so the OP would be looking for Cooledge Rd to turn left on off of Lawrenceville Hwy.
