My husband and I are considering looking in Tucker to purchase our home. My job is off of 75 (about two exists inside the 285 Loop). Does anyone have any idea on how long it would take to do that drive ? We're coming to visit this weekend to look around but I won't be there until Saturday so I can test the drive.

My route would be to go down 85 and then back up on 75 instead of trying to go on 285. It looks like I can get to 85 inside the loop by the Lawrencville Highway. Anyone have any opinion on this ? If you need a reference point the MLS listing says the nearest high school would be Park View High.

Thanks!

That is not going to be a very fun drive at all!! So your talking about living in Tucker and driving to the Marietta/Vinings area correct?

If you ultimately decide on living there I can give you a better route but a better alternative would be to live in Vinings/Smyrna/Mableton/Marietta.

You might be able to use 78/St Mt Freeway to N. Druid Hills Rd and get on I85S--then fight your way to I75N to Vinings. (A very congested 10-15 miles on N. Druid Hills--should take 20 min but more likely 45 +. And then you have to hope that the interstates are moving...)

I think you would have to be on the road each day by at least 6:30 AM--and who knows about the return trip.

I really wonder if it is still possible to go across Atlanta from St. MT to Marietta or other areas?

You would have to cut too far south to take 78. A better alternative would be to take Lavista to Briarcliff to Shallowford road and then get on 85 south. Alternatively if you lived farther north you could take Chamblee-Tucker around until it hit 85. Either one would be better then taking Lawrenceville hwy (because it's not really a hwy and congested) or 78.

You can cut across Atlanta but it isn't advisable. I do a similar drive and I take 85s to 75n.

Thanks for the responses. Maybe we can try this drive on Saturday to see what its like (I know its Saturday, unfortunately). I looked in Marietta a little but it seems like we can get a lot more for our money in Tucker.

XXMan you stated you do a similar drive to this one... any idea how long this would take ? I'm ok with anything under 1 hour.

I truly wish you well.

You could easily have an hour commute within one sector.

Yep, I totally agree!! Your commute is going to be well over an hour I'm afraid! I am thinking more like 1.5 hrs. And if it's raining or you catch an accident, you might be looking in the 2hr range.

I think you would probably average 45-60 minutes. This drive isn't that bad. Highways are generally better inside the perimeter and 75n is not bad at all. There will certainly be worse days (like yesterday when this drive probably would have taken you 2+ hours but was probably the worst traffic day in the last year) but an average of 45-60 minutes isn't unrealistic. It all depends on where in Tucker you are. I drive from North Druid Hills to Marietta and it takes 30 minutes almost every time.

Ok Thanks. Well all I can do is try it. Fortunately I'll be in Atlanta for about two months before we actually buy a home. I guess I'll have to drive out there in the morning before work and see if I can make to my job without bursting into tears over the traffic.

I might revisit the Marietta idea... though from what I understand the roads off of the exit to actually get to the neighborhoods aren't much better.

Basically looks like I'm screwed either way with the traffic thing.

Thanks Everyone.
