Hey everyone. I'm a 23 year old single male about ready to finish up with his undergrad. I'm currently looking to move south for law school. Some of the schools that have intrigued me the most are in Atlanta (Emory, Georgia State, John Marshall...on a side note, if anyone has anything to add about these schools feel free). I'm just wondering if it's the right city for me. I've previously lived in Pittsburgh (where I grew up), Columbus, Ohio, and Wheeling (also where I spent a lot of time growing up) and Huntington (both small cities in West Virginia). A few things I'm looking for:

1. Safety - Obviously no one wants to be robbed, ect. It's a big concern for me moving to a new city. I'm single and won't know anyone so I want to get out and do things, make friends, ect. Also, I want to live in a good area that's close to my school and has a lot to offer me socially.

2. Weather - Probably my biggest reason for moving south. I grew up in the Pittsburgh area and the weather has always messed with me. I don't like a lot of rain, and cold spells bother me. I actually enjoy hot weather. I lived in Columbus,OH and Kentucky and when everyone would complain about the 98 degree weather and humidity, I like to grab a giant jug of water and go run in the park.

3. Job Market - From what I can tell, all of the three law schools I mentioned are very well respected nationally. Is there a good market in Atlanta for this type of degree?

4. Recreation, People, Culture, ect. - Like, I've stated before, I'm a young single male wanting to venture into a professional line of work. I love meeting new people with my ideas, hobbies, and ambition. I want to live in a city where there's a lot of exciting opportunities out of the work place as well for young professionals.

Thanks a ton for the help in advance, and sorry to create another redundant thread about relocating.

I think you would enjoy going to school/living in Atlanta.

Here's a thread that might give you an overview>>>

If you attend any of the law schools you mentioned you will have a choice of some nice locations for housing. There are many attorneys in Atlanta and many corporations ---I'm certain the market is competitive but it is possible to succeed here.

There are many opportunities to mix and mingle in Atlanta--name your interests and posters may have links for you. Running the Peachtreee Road Race on the 4th of July is something that you might like to do and through training you would meet many people. There are so many other choices--enough museums, concerts and sporting events and places to eat.

The climate should be a good fit, too. It gets hot and humid from mid June to late September but the winter is short, spring and fall are great.

Come and see for yourself.

Thanks a bunch for the reply. It sure looks like Atlanta might be a great spot for me to come visit. Everything about it seems to fit me great. The only thing bad I keep hearing is the traffic, but I have a feeling I'm already used to that after living in Pittsburgh.

If you live near work/school then you can have a better traffic experience.

GSU and John Marshall are downtown and there are a number of good options for housing. Several posters in the thread I linked mentioned 'Midtown'/area just beyond downtown and it includes some historic neighborhoods. VA Highland has many restaurants, bars and shops--great for meeting other 20 somethings.

Emory University is NE of downtown Atlanta and several historic neighborhoods are good for commuting. The City of Decatur is about 5-10 minutes from Emory and there are some good places to eat, listen to music and shop in this area.

Beyond Emory there are many apartments, condos and homes that are options and you aren't far from the Lenox/Buckhead the premiere dining-shopping district of Atlanta.

You would be living ITP/Inside the Perimeter and while traffic is steady and plentiful you would generally avoid the gridlock.

Midtown seems really intriguing to me and is probably more likely to me because of schools. I would prefer to go to Emory, but it's such a prestigious law program, I wonder if I can get in.
