The Varsity is a tourist attraction and it's "neat", but no, not the best burgers.

Ted's: Well, I've been to one of them that had some damn good burgers, and another that wasn't quite as good as the first one (inconsistent), although I do like the old train station/pub atmosphere in them.

My vote for the most consistently best burger though would have to go to...

Although I will add, that sometimes I'm not in the mood to put up with the oddities of Little Five Points and a waitress with six nose rings, so on those days I'll still go to Ted's instead. lol

There was a Wall Street Journal report last week that has the best three burgers at The EARL (East Atlanta), The Vortex (Little Five), and Ann's Snack Bar (Kirkwood). Ann's Snack Bar took the gold. For the entire freaking country.

I thought the Varsity was more renowned for their hot dogs?

I believe they're really "reknowned" for the gas and general stomach-churning that occurs after eating there. I'm still trying to figure out how they ended up in this poll- they'd be better suited for a comparison between McDonalds, Burger King and Wendy's, and Wendy's would beat them.

If the poll were for the best onion rings and frosted orange drinks - The Varsity would win hands down.(In my opinion )
Hamburgers - no way

I gave Ted's three attempts at three different locations. It wasn't me since each party I was with could not even finish their meals. Outside of Dolche' in Huntsville, Alabama, Ted's is one of the worst restaurants I have ever entered.

Vote: Vortex.
I get the sense that the quality of Ted's varies drastically from store to store. I've eaten at the Ted's in downtown Decatur several times, and it was fine. However, the single most disastrous restaurant experience I have ever had was a dinner at the Brookwood location...it was like a sitcom episode.

And why isn't Ann's Ghetto Burger in this poll?

I recently went to Vortex for the first time. I was very impressed-all the ingredients were tasty and fresh, and prices are very reasonable.

My favorite burger in Atlanta is the Bacon Cheeseburger at Gato Bizco.

I like Ted's. I only go to the one where he lives. He's either in there eating, or I see him coming or going from his building almost every time I go there.

I only tried the Vortex once and I thought it was good but not outstanding. The bun was way too soggy for my tastes.
