At the corner of North Druid Hills and Peachtree Rd in Brookhaven, there are two right turn lanes and two traffic lights. Is it legal to take that right turn on a red light in either lane? There is no "No turn on Red" sign. But other places in Atlanta where I've seen two turn lanes do have this sign.

Does anyone know the rule on this? I'm usually in the left of the two lanes, and I do turn on red. But I've never seen anyone else do it, which causes me some concern (personally I don't think it's a dangerous turn at all because it's easy to see any cars coming).

Yes, it is legal to turn as long as you stay in your designated lane.

I have another Question:
If I am in the left hand lane and there is a no left turn sign, can I make a U turn as long as I do not go through the red light?

In these situations it is better to be in the far right lane. Although most people turn at own risk in left turning lane. If it has arrows like red or green arrows NO ONE is to turn until Green Arrow. If it is solid red light then everyone can turn after a complete stop.

It is OK what you are doing. But, this is Atlanta. You don't have to pay attention to any rules. You can turn left from the far right lane, right from the far left lane, switch lanes 4 times within one intersection before turning....do whatever you want.

I wish more people paid attention to the turn lanes. The worst is turning left onto 10th from W. Peachtree. The far left lane is straight or left turn. The 2nd lane is straight only, but people very routinely take a left from that 2nd lane. Since the inside lane is also a straight lane, they are basically turning left over a straight lane. I can't count the number of accidents I've seen almost happen there.

The next one is Marietta Blvd. turning left onto Marietta St. The left lane is left only, while the right lane is left or straight. But people go straight from the left lane, nearly taking out those turning left from the right lane (legally).

It's really just that people in this city have absolutely no clue when they get behind the wheel.

There is a similar intersection at the corner of North Henry Blvd. and 138 (near Walmart) I believe. Even though people may be doing it, if there is a sign that says "No Turn On Red" then do not do it. My cousin got a ticket for doing that. Sure enough people probably do it (just like we break other traffic rules) but if it's your turn to get caught then you will.

similar question;

lets say you're in the far left lane of a one-way street. You come to a red light where the cross street is one-way going to your left. Can you turn left on red?

I asked a few local cops here this, but we have probably less than 10 streets where this situation occurs, and no one could give me an answer.

Yais!!! I agree.

There are double right turn lanes off of the N Druid Hills 85 N. exit and I remember the first experience when I was in the left hand, right lane and I stopped at the red light. The entire city blew their horn at me to let me know I must turn. So I obliged and have been doing so ever since.

exactly. there's no accountability when driving in atlanta. people drive however fast they want, run red lights, turn left on red. i see it all the time. and don't forget those "tag applied for" cardboard signs you see in lieu of a valid license plate. god forbid people actually have to get one.
