This is ridiculous....apparently these kids think this is fun. Was any of this recorded on video?

People will try to use stuff like that to make MARTA look unsafe. It's just a fact of urban life and the reality is it could happen anywhere.

That should never happen and it certainly doesn't help the argument for more transit against those who believe it brings crime. The police or whoever can't let things like this go unpunished. They need to take whatever steps are necessary to ensure rider safety.

If parents would be held responsible for their kids' actions, I am quite sure we'd see some change in the tide...

There's some truth to this, but MARTA has been having some SERIOUS problems over the past year. Three murders in or very close to stations, at least 3 or 4 people being hit by trains, no telling how many assaults over that time...

Also, this happened at Garnett station, right across from the courthouse and the Greyhound station. Shouldn't there be a little more security presence there?

I'm beyond fed up with the thugs who prowl this city

The point of the article (or the posting) is not to illustrate MARTA's safety (though we can argue about where any police were when this happened) - the point is to try to take a guess as to how/why kids turn out like this where something like happens anywhere to begin with.

Not that I don't agree with you on the other stuff, but to be fair... the part about people being hit by trains... they did it to themselves. I remember that happening when I lived in NYC - people got hit and died by trains there too.

Well, my guess would be a lot of these kids are living in poverty, have little education, low self esteem and have very few if any positive role models and will find out outlet for their frustration. It's sad that outlet sometimes has to be crime. According to this article http://www.wsbtv.com/news/27608434/detail.htmlone witnesses say the teens were shouting "B.F.P.L" Possible gang activity? Hope the Delta employees are ok

I understand. I'm just saying there are people who will try to use this to claim there is a problem with safety on MARTA.

Personally I think this behavior is a combination of failures in both parental (and other adult) responsibility and individual responsibility. Grownups have to set the standard and provide support and guidance.

At the same time, once we humans reach our teenage years we're capable of making our own choices about how we behave. Let's say you're 17 and your friends are saying, "Let's go down to the MARTA train around midnight and terrorize and rob some people." There's a moment when you can personally decide whether you want to go along with that or not, even if you had really terrible parents.
