Kind of few details there. What/where/who rents at that rate, etc. Does sound kind of steep, though. Lots of people might gladly claim the title of "queen" here though, so take your pick.

That is very high. Priceline has cars starting at $86/day during that period and Hotwire actually has a mid size SUV starting at $59/day. You'd have to look into what fees may be added but seems better then what you quoted.

I don't know where you folks are getting your cars from, but you shouldn't be paying more than about $40/day + tax for an economy rental car from any of the major rental companies. I rent through my corporate account which gets me cars at around $30 - $40/day, but I did a quick search of Expedia and saw similar prices for economy cars.

http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll?qscr=cars&dagv=1&subm=1&fdrp=1&styp=2&lo cn=ATLANTA%2C+GA&date1=4/20/2009&date2=4/21/2009&vend=&kind=2&time1=660&time2=660&ttyp=2&acop= 2&rdus=10&rdct=1 (broken link)

Now if you want a large car/van or SUV, or you don't have a credit card then the price might be higher, but $155/day is nearly what I paid for car for a week in Florida.

But those are renting from off-airport sites. If you rent at the airport, prices are much higher because of convenience + airport taxes.

That said, to the OP, if you can find a rental car site that is off of MARTA, then get it there because the savings will be enormous.

Oh, I didn't think Marts went to the airport. I'll check it out. That's what I did in Chicago Midway and saved 1/2 what the airport was asking.

It's one way City of Atlanta gets money, tax the Hell out of rentals from the airport. Look it up.

Hotwire.com then go to Priceline and bid about 15% less than what hotwire had it for.

I'm not sure if it coincides with your dates but I hear that the Masters golf tournament in Augusta is one of the busiest seasons of the year for the car rental companies.

I've had visiting family that rented a compact from the airport for a week for about $150. Prices may have gone up since then but I'm certain that those kind of rates are due to high demand.
