Hi everyone, I am a 25yr old single female that is looking to relocate to Atlanta. I currently live in the Northern Va area. I like this area (NoVA) however, it is so expensive to live! I would like to be a big city that still has the same charm as Charleston, SC but not as slow.
Need advice on hospitals to check into (mainly ones that will hire new grads, possible signing bonuses), yearly property taxes on vehicles, and of course, safe neighborhoods for a single young woman.
Also how does Atl compare to DC? Thanks alot!

I used to live in Alexandria and worked in Arlington in the last 80s and early 90s. I've been in Atlanta for the last 17 years. DC is a great city - walkable, historic, center of power. Atlanta is a great city - clean, safe, affordable. I loved WDC but it was expensive and you were either in a good area or bad one. Atlanta is slower but not slow. You can find lots of great places to live but it is not a walking city and public transportation is almost irrelevant unless you want to take a bus.

That said, I love it here and have helped lots of people relocate here. The main hospital area is in north Atlanta in an area called the Perimeter. It is about 10 minutes north of Buckhead and right where I-285 (the perimeter beltway) separates in town (Atlanta) from the burbs.

There are lots of apartments and condos in the Perimeter area. It is a nice area with shopping, dining, access to MARTA (our Metro - but it doesn't really go many places) and convenient to the major roadways.

I would recommend you contact Northside Hospital, St Joseph's Hospital, & Scottish Rite Hospital; there's also Emory University Hospital and Crawford Long Hospital. I'd go online and see what openings they have. You should not have a hard time finding a nursing job here but I would have one lined up before you move.

Property tax on vehicles depends on the value of your car and the county you live in. Generally speaking, it will be in the $200-$500 range.

Are you looking to buy or rent?

Thanks. A few of those hospitals I haven't checked yet. I would like to buy, however with moving to a new area I would like to rent a condo/townhome for under $1000. Which neighborhoods should be avoided at all cost?

This is a good area--NW Atlanta--Dunwoody/Sandy Springs/East Cobb.

Just for your info Crawford Long is now called Emory Midtown and they will not hire new grads, Im not sure if they implemented this in the other Emory hospitals or not.
