Fire Victims Complain Of Slow 911 Response - 11Alive.com | WXIA | Atlanta, GA

Quote:
Cell phone records show one of her friends calling 911 to report smoke and a small fire that seemed to be coming from the basement.
According to Atlanta Fire scanner archives a dispatcher didn't call for fire trucks for more than 15 minutes after that.
Mitchell's friends and neighbors believe something went wrong at the 911 call center level.
"Everybody had a cell phone. Up and down the street people were calling in to report the fire. A couple people tried land lines too. We were all getting a recording and no one was picking up. One person got connected with a Cobb County dispatcher who then transferred them back to the Atlanta recording," remembered Cleta Mitchell.
Meantime, one frustrated neighbor physically drove to nearby Atlanta Fire Station 9 to get help, but saw first hand what recent budget cuts have done to staffing.
"The first unit to arrive was Station 9, but there were only three guys on the truck. The driver had to man the truck, the Captain was trying to assess the situation, and the one guy with the hose was supposed to wait for backup. He still tried to fight the fire by himself, but he really needed more help," said neighbor Addison Williams.

Good Lawd....Just a matter of time until someone is killed....

How in Earth can the City of Atlanta mess up so many things at the same time?

Unbelievable.
