mattee01 I have also wondered why they put the county on the plates. If In God We Trust is acceptable what is the point of ticketing someone for not having their county sticker on or covered? Additionally why would someone be paranoid about a stranger knowing what county they live in?

I don't think it is really necessary to have the county stickers on the license plates. One of the smaller decals have everything what LEOs needed for info.

They are probably lazy to bend down a little to read the smaller decals.

Well they help me count up how many people from my county make the drive to ride MARTA!
(so I can make the point in my local paper that people want transit, not for being creepy)

I'll be contacting my local tag office for more information and let you guys know what I'm told by them. If I don't comment back it means I got the "IGWT" decal.

Are you referring to the dealer plastic thing they put around your plate? or item like it?

I believe they are illegal but rarely enforced.

Saw something on CH 2 News few months ago, about them being illegal.

Having the County Sticker, is so the cops know you are out of the area, so they can easily profile you & give you a ticket you probably will not fight.

I liked it better when Georgia and other states used county codes on their license plates.

For example...

1-ABC123 (Fulton)
2-ABC123 (Gwinnett)
3-ABC123 (Cobb)
4-ABC123 (DeKalb)
5-ABC123 (Chatham)
etc, etc.

Sounds like he put his own sticker over the county tag.

Kinda still do. If you know the plate cycle for your county, you can tell, if the tag is from your county.

It was pretty easy in Rockdale when I first moved here to know when people moved to the county by the beginning of their plate. The cycle started over in the last few years so I have no idea anymore.

Georgia is the only state I have lived in where the county handles license plates. Most other states do it on the state level (i.e. DMV). It strikes me as horribly inefficient to do it on the county level.

Can some tell me what the point is of putting a white sticker over your county sticker? You already have a county sticker. Why block it out?

I've heard different reasons:
One goes back to the olden days when license plates were issued by the county. The other has to do with taxes being paid to both the state and county. I'm not sure how correct either of those are.
