Hello,

I am considering giving living in this area a try, since I always liked southern people. There are so many areas and neighborhoods and counties around Atlanta, I would like to ask for some advice to narrow down the list a bit.

I am young, female, single, professional. I would like an area that is safe and nice, with more trees but not one of those "redneck rural areas". Maybe a progressive and more intellectual rural area, with easy access to social activities to meet other young single people.

How hard is it to drive and park in the city? Any pockets of the city that is nice, safe, with trees and park?

Please mention some names of neighborhoods or towns so that I can begin the research.

Thanks.

Decatur
Inman Park
Virginia Highland
Midtown
Grant Park
East Atlanta

All good places to begin your research...Emory, GA Tech and Agnes Scott College are huge draws too so you do get highly intellectual communities in these areas. Everywhere else (okay, maybe not everywhere, but most places) are just a bunch of malls and chick-fil-a stores.

It's going to depend a lot on your budget. You'll also want to factor in where you'll be working since traffic in Atlanta is horrifying. The intown neighborhoods that sweettea1 mentioned are generally expensive, whether you're buying or renting.

The areas around Emory University and Agnes Scott College very much have the "college town" vibe. This entire area of town (and the majority of Atlanta) are notable for their massive trees. Generally speaking, finding areas with lots of trees is not going to be a problem most anywhere in Atlanta -- it's an urban forest.

midtown has the most space and parks/trees, however, I'm not sure about the intellectual part... As far as intellectualism Emory area is well known across the nation.. not as much space, but plenty of trees, etc..

"Well, anyway, large fries, pie, large coffee, NOW! You got me, bubba?"

But-Head: "Uhhh.."

Mr. Anderson: "I didn't order uhh. I ordered a large fries, pie, large coffee. Now get 'em out of the fryer and cough 'em up!"
