If you are an architect/urban planner, how are you doing in Atlanta? What kinds of jobs are you doing these days? I'm an undergrad real estate student considering a masters in architecture, and I would love to hear someone else's experience if possible.

Hate to see your post go totally unanswered. I am not an architect but I do have a close friend who is. He works in Miami for a firm with a few offices in the US and one that is in ATL. He used to come to ATL often for projects but business is slower and he travels far less these days. He says that they are doing more govt jobs lately, like airport renovations etc. He also said that they have trimmed their staff considerably over the last few years.

You could try contacting the Atlanta Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. They have mentoring programs and I am sure would match you with someone to ask questions to.

My architect friends in Atlanta now say that the unemployment rate for architects in this city is at or above 50%. The industry has been hard hit. Perhaps it will get better in the future, but right now finding a job as an architect is hard work.
