At one time Stone Mountain was a nice area - actually a place people sought out to find a place. While there are still a few "pockets" where things are ok, overall it's one of a handful of areas that has gone downhill quite a bit over the last few years. Mostly due to teen crime (burglaries, robberies, a few muggings, etc.). Decatur that I'm sure others on here can recommend to you.

This complex is definitely not in the nicest area of Stone Mountain but it could be worse. Like Atlantagreg said it wouldn't be in a war zone but it won't be a picnic either. Areas closer to the city or north near Tucker or Dunwoody are much nicer. I would concentrate your search in these areas of the county.

I stand by my statement. I lived in Lithonia, and while my neighborhood was nice, it was still considered hood. Of course, I would live there again, but I wouldn't live in Stone Mountain under no circumstances. I also feel Atlanta is ghetto, with the exception of the nice areas. But then, every county or city has it's good areas along with the bad areas, and Stone Mountain is definitely a bad area.
