I am located in Milwaukee,WI. I am all but 28, I have my BA, and MBA. I am currently a special education Teacher in Milwaukee. I am in the last stage of completing my license, (though I wonder will my license transfer there or should I just try to get in there and complete a program there).I am a first year teacher and I am completing my certification in special education k - 12.

I have become increasingly interested in relocating to Atlanta. Atlanta has always been on my list, as Texas, St. Louis, Chicago, and Charlotte, North Carolina. Mind you I have yet to visit Atlanta, but I have read about it for years. I think Atlanta is the best choice, ATL has 1. A diverse population, 2. It has a number of nice restaurants which I enjoy 3. There is a nice social life, 4. Networking is good so I can transition into my entrepreneurial ventures (which is why I had them on my list to begin with), 5. Cost of living is reasonable, 6. Weather is nice, 7. Room for growth expansion 8. Location is great for travel. I think, and it sounds as if Atlanta has a bit more to offer, even in this struggling economy.

The answers I need:

1. Should I complete my certification here? From what I have been reading Atlanta places a lot of emphasis on "HIGHLY QUALIFIED TEACHERS", what makes a teacher highly qualified in their eyes, what do I need to do and what do I need to make happen?

2. Which school Districts should I look at and how do I go about applying for this up coming school year?

3. Where should I look for housing? I just want to rent a decent 1 bedroom place very low cost in a safe area, with minor auto theft and maybe 30min ride to work. I guess rent would really be based on salary.

4. I have no children, its just me and I am single.

5. I am flexible with employment considering my credentials.

Any other concerns or information you may need to help me get all the information I need I will gladly supply it. I much rather move sooner than later.

Thanks

School districts all around Atlanta are furloughing existing teachers and talking about layoffs. Not really a good time to be breaking into the profession here, I'm afraid.

A special education teacher should/might be able to get a job because there are often vacancies because of the nature of the position. What age group do you want to teach?
