Try to network and get your name out there. You are in a good field and I would should be able to find something related to Accounting. I see a lot of accounting jobs posted online. If nothing else go volunteer to help people do taxes or work at a cpa firm doing taxes for the season, give you some good experience, especially if you want to go into taxes. If you don't at least you learn some new skills.

not really. All police depts are "accepting" appplications and "looking" for new talent. but aren't hiring.

state police is the only one to officially announce a freeze on hiring.

Yeah, I checked with Dekalb County in 2007. Had a bachelors and passed my fitness stuff, but it was tough.

At least you got as far as an interview, a lot of people can't even get interviews.

Great point. Usually you can at least get job postings from your career services office. Accounting has been a good field and with a year of experience under your belt hopefully you can land something soon. I bet you find something soon. Make sure to drill home your experience and that your on a cpa track during your interviews.
