It was bound to happen, but it's still pretty impressive. I'm sure NYC will hold that #1 spot for a good while more.

I agree. I'm not surprised by this and would thought that this would be the case already.

I also think that the NYC metro will hold the spot for a long time just due to the type of immigrants that come there and it is an area that has always had at least a noticeable Black community.

I'm thinking that maybe it's interesting that as recent as 1990 it was 7th in that regard. So, that segment has grown at a high rate in that area.

What about Detroit?
Also, "28 county metro area?!?!" 28 counties? That's like 1/4 of the state, right? I know Atlanta sprawls, but it can't sprawl that much.

Not surprised. I don't think NYC will ever fall from number one in raw numbers. But when you combined Atlanta's raw population with hig percentage compared to other ethnic groups I would say you could argue Atlanta is even blacker than NYC.

Hmm. I wonder how they got their numbers. BlackDemographics and these numbers are very different. That's why estimates should be taken with a grain of salt. While I love to look at them, they aren't 100% accurate. Regardless, Atlanta passing Chicago was inevitable.

Not even close. GA has 159 counties.

Atlanta MSA includes most of the counties north and south of the metro area.
