The city has the Masters, ESI Ironman 70.3, Augusta Regatta, Southern Nationals, IMBA World Summitt, AAU track tournaments at Laney stadium, wakeboarding tournaments, etc. Along with the Nike Peach Jam and Nike Nationals in North Augusta, Aiken Triple Crown in Aiken, and Bassmaster Elite Series in Columbia County.

Action sports event comes to Augusta | The Augusta Chronicle
The top professionals in BMX and skateboarding were at the ASA Big Air Triples event Saturday. The event is the first of its kind in Augusta.

"(Augusta) has opened up to just about every other sport besides action sports," said Saunders, an avid skateboarder. "It's great to see the city open its eyes and realize that BMX and skateboarding is a big deal now. I hope it's here to stay." Many of the athletes participating Saturday agreed.

ASA Entertainment is beginning to branch out into smaller markets in an effort to put its product in front of those who wouldn't ordinarily be able to see it in person. Saturday's event marked the first time that skateboarding had been included in a Big Air Triples competition.

Adding Augusta to the schedule was something that riders who live in the Southeast say they appreciated, because the tour lacked other events in the region. "I live in Miami and this is the closest event that will happen for me this year," said BMX superstar Mike Spinner, who was competing for the first time since suffering a torn ACL last July.

Several of the nation's top women's basketball coaches will become pretty familiar with the scenery from the 13th Street Bridge connecting Georgia and South Carolina this week. That's because many of the country's most sought-after recruits will be playing in one of two venues: Augusta State's Christenberry Fieldhouse or North Augusta's Riverview Park Activities Center.

The JumpOffPlus.com Elite 24 Summer Jam started Tuesday in Augusta and the Nike Nationals tip off today in North Augusta.

Augusta Rugby Club celebrates field, tournament | The Augusta Chronicle
The Augusta Rugby Club will enjoy a moment Saturday that it has been anticipating for quite some time. Although the club has been around for nearly three decades, it has never held a tournament because it lacked a field to call its own.

The Maddogs, as they're called, will play host to their first rugby tournament in Augusta -- and they will do it on their own field.
Ten teams are scheduled to play in the Augusta Back Nine Sevens Invitational at the new Larry Bray Memorial Pitch.

I didn't even know Augusta had this....

The USTA Georgia Mixed Doubles State Championships was held in Augusta August 13-16. At Newman Tennis Center, Petersburg Racquet Club, Fleming Tennis Center, Diamond Lakes Park, The Club at Rae's Creek, Westlake Country Club and Riverview Park.

The USTA Georgia Mixed Doubles State Championships will attract more than 1,100 athletes to Augusta for the fifth year in a row. The tournament will produce an economic impact of approximately $800,000.

On another topic: We've heard the national cycling championships are coming in 2011 and 2012. University of Oregon said the cycling championships had a $2 million dollar impact on Bend, Oregon in 2009.

Ukrainian wins Ironman | The Augusta Chronicle

Expect downtown too be VERY crowded tonight. Last night the streets were full and people had to get up early for the Ironman today. I saw car tags who were from all over the united states.

The event was supposed to attract 6,000 people(3,200 participants) and have a impact of $5 million.

6,000? You sure you don't mean 5,000? The only estimate for attendance that I've read about was this: "It will be between 4,500 and 5,000 people. It's huge. Generally, they'll stay about four days," said Randy DuTeau, the sports development manager for the Augusta Sports Council.
