Bass Pro will probably build their store in the Carmax area in West Augusta. Or near the surrounding area of I-20/520.

I hope the announcement is a Costco, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Chipotle, REI, Chessecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, etc.

It'd be cool if they decided to go into the Ft. Discovery space. Wait, hold on folks, I'm about to go out on a tangent here...the Bass Pro Shop store is to be 100,000 sq. ft., the Ft. Discovery space is just over 100,000 sq. ft. When we first learned of Ft. Discovery's intent to close, we were told that the museum would remain and would stay open until the building received a buyer, it just so happens that earlier this week we learned that they are closing up shop AND later the same week we learn that Bass Pro is looking at other sites in ARC. Coincidence? Probably, but who knows, Bass Pro has put stores in downtown areas before and has retrofitted existing buildings for stores as well (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memphis_Pyramid).

Also, wouldn't it be ironic if the announcement about VaR was that Bass Pro is abandoning that location and the owner of the property is putting it up for sale? Hahaha! I kid, I kid.

As a side note, the VaR website, which had remained intact (even with no construction on-site) since the project was announced several years ago, has recently gone off-line... http://www.villageatriverwatch.com/

Eastside, great minds must think alike. I posted late last year about how outside the box putting Bass Pro would be in the Fort Discovery Place. I like the idea ecspecially with everything that is going on downtwon with the TEE center. However when my rational mind prevails (and I drive past Carmax) i see a lot of land and GREAT visibility for Bass Pro and whoever opens up there!
