Given your parenthetical statement, Emory would be the state's preeminent medical school. Although MCG is good.

it needs the panache of the University of Georgia attached to it.
Well, right now it's Georgia Health Sciences University. A really blah name. If University of Georgia is attached to it then it loses its identity and people will think it's part of UGA.

University of Augusta or Augusta State sounds like a regional state college.
Augusta State sounds regional, University of Augusta not so much. Take a tip from the University of Miami, University of Pittsburgh, University of Cincinnati, University of Memphis, University of Houston, University of Louisville, University of Chicago, ...

UAB, UCLA stand on their own and don't come across as branches.
Probably because they market themselves using letters instead of its full name, especially UCLA. But if you say University of Alabama Birmingham, it does sound like Alabama's branch campus.

Quote:
Here in Texas, the University of Texas has campuses all across the state and while none have a division 1 football team to make them known on a national level, within the state UTD (Dallas) UTA (Arlington) UTSA (San Atonio) are very well respected schools.
But it makes it harder to distinguish the school from a branch campus. There are Penn State Altoona, Penn State Beaver, Penn State Erie, Penn State Harrisburg, Penn State York etc. all over Pennsylvania and they are indeed branch campuses.

Give it a name that sounds good and not a branch of UGA otherwise it will have to spend a lot of marketing dollars to educate the public that it is not. A name like the University of Augusta leaves no doubt. A university is split up into colleges so the med school could still call itself the Medical College of Georgia.

A&M typically means Agricultural and Mechanical. Not a bad idea as we'd have:

University of Georgia
Georgia Tech
Georgia State
Georgia A&M

But I think it would have to be spelled out as Georgia Arts & Medicine to avoid confusion.

True but all you would have to do is market the schools name.... It could have the west campus(ASU), and the east campus(GHSU).... The AM Jags

I was in favor of UGA-Augusta, but it does marginalize the institutions. University of Augusta is the best option.

All you have to do is look over on the other side of the river... USCA sounds great, but USC-Aiken is what everyone calls it and it's not exactly a name rolling off of the tongue of high school students outside of the metro Augusta area...

Come up with something that won't make it sound like a branch campus or a directional institute like the Michigan Universities and you'll have the best choice.

The university of Augusta is clearly the best name..

Once the state releases the property watch the multi-use stadium, residential, retail, and research park begin.. Downtown Augusta won't never look or feel the same again... Anytime a developer similar to Jim Jacoby comes to a city the size of Augusta.. They know what cities are starting to move ahead faster compared to previous years..

I do like University of Augusta the best.

Also, wouldn't it be nice if the new merged ASU/GHSU scattered throughout downtown preserving and renovating buildings for institutional use like how SCAD did to downtown Savannah?

That's exactly what I'm hoping for and the reason for the title of this thread.
