Roundtree narrowly defeats Peebles in Democratic Richmond County sheriff's runoff

I like to see the under dog come out on top. Its funny to me how all these big so call peoples endorsed Peebles and he still lost. You talking about wasting money, specialty on all those aids. I ready taught he was going to win.

This is not a good thing... you're going to see a lot of people leaving the RCSO. Roundtree had been in trouble while on the force and was much less qualified than Peebles to be sheriff.

Peebles had the business community in his favor, but Roundtree went into the different neighorhoods(especially lower middle class to working class) across the county....

I didn't have an problem with either candidate, and good luck to Roundtree... I have a feeling Peebles might end up supporting Roundtree in November against Freddie Sanders...

Roundtree definitely did a better job of campaigning.

I hope the RCSO leave because of Roundtree that's a good thing, he will be able to bring in younger males/females police officers. I think he going to get a lot of things done that been sweep under the rug. You have to be careful trying to find the perfect person when to be focusing one the right one. I think voters of Augusta got this one right and he is more qualified then you giving him credit. I think Peeble would have done a good also but I don't think he can get the best out them because he going to want everybody to like him. RCSO probably would try to run all over him like the commissioner try to do the Mayor. I guess that's the end of the day Good Old Boy system

You think he was more qualified than Peebles? Peebles was by far and away, the most qualified to be sheriff... this isn't up for debate, there are a number of reasons why that are factually available to anyone. As far as being the right guy for the job... Roundtree has a lot of making up to do after his behavior while on the RCSO.

If the good old boy system, is getting the best guy in office... I'm all for it. Unfortunately, that didn't happen this time around. I hope if Roundtree eventually wins that he is a great sheriff, if his past history on the force is any indicator however... I think we'll be disappointed.

Zero percent chance Peebles supports Roundtree later in the year, I promise you that. Ask your friend or whoever you know that works for RCSO... they'll tell you.

Peeble did say he was going to get behind Roundtree in the news interview. Have you been watching the news lately. Peeble probably was more qualified but that don't mean you the best man for the job. Just like in the NFL when a team owner and media think they first round daft pick is the most qualified player until you put him in action on a bigger stage then he fails. Then other Nfl team owner say I dont need the most qualified I just need the right one for my system Tom Brady. He may not have the numbers, you would want a QB to have. Tom Brady was last round daft pick but one if the greatest of all time.

Being as my brother works is a deputy for the RCSO, I assure you've, I've been watching... unless you have seen an interview I haven't, Scott was very graceful and supported the process and moving forward... not necessarily Roundtree. Roundtree isn't the most popular fellow in the RCSO and for good reason, his past and job performance as an investigator.

To your analogy... you can't compare a sport to this, OFTEN the most qualified candidate IS the best choice. A sport is on a completely different reality compared to facing life and death decisions everyday and running a department with who knows how many employees and delegating who knows how much money here and there. And we don't know that Roundtree is the best person for the job like you say, I hope so, but people can't just sweep his past under the rug and claim him to be the guy for the job until he PROVES it.

Just take a look at the article written by WJBF.
WJBF Looks Into Richmond County Sheriff Candidates' Personnel Files | ABC 6 WJBF-TV

Here are some of the best parts:

Roundtree was suspended and demoted in 2008 for having cold case and arrest files at his apartment....
He was suspended for 5 days after his superiors wrote a letter to the review board, saying that Roundtree had sex with 3 female officers on his shift...
His superior wrote, "Officer Roundtree isn't a single person. He is married, but has all the women on this shift mad at each other at this time. We would appreciate officer Roundtree to be assigned elsewhere so our shift can get back to normal."

Clearly, some Richmond county residents don't care about such "indiscretions."
