Savannah's port is a MONSTER because of Atlanta ... NOT Augusta.

What percentage of that traffic on I-16 is directly related to the Savannah's port? I was referring to commuters and travelers but I see yalls point.

Even as far as commuters and travelers go, again, Atlantans take I-16 to get to Savannah. I just don't see how that means that a direct Augusta-Savannah connection would be more traveled.

Augusta vs. Columbus: who's No. 2? | Mobile Augusta

How each city counts its population plays a role in where it ranks. Columbus counts all of Muscogee County, which it consolidated with in 1971, whereas Augusta, which became a consolidated government when it merged with Richmond County in 1996, doesn’t count residents in the county’s other two municipalities.

So yes, blame the confusion on Blythe and Hephzibah, which declined a chance to become part of the consolidated city government.

If I didn't know, I would assume the second largest city was Savannah, then Augusta, but definitely not not Columbus. Neither would most others. When most people hear Columbus, they automatically think of Columbus,Ohio and not the one in Georgia. I think the Columbus officials are starting to think a little to highly of their city in general.

I totally agree. I grew up in Atlanta and always though that it was Augusta or Savannah. I don't know anyone in Atlanta that would think that Columbus is the second largest city. When I was it school, our textbook only talked about two Georgia cities. Those were Augusta and Savannah. They never mentioned Columbus. My children's textbooks don't mention Columbus either. I really don't know what would make people think that Columbus was the second largest city. Most people don't think that. Not sure why Columbus officials would think that people think that either.

We are thinking highly because Columbus is booming in all aspects.
