Columbus boosters? It was the so call "Augusta boosters" who started this conversation about having more traffic.

Oh,and for your information, the Aflac tower does stands out.

Everyone have a nice night.

Actually that's wrong. Your map has you taking US 27 south of Columbus, going through Georgia, then cutting over. Nobody in the world would go that way. Much faster to take highway 431 from outside Columbus through Alabama to Dothan, then take I-10 over and go down 331. This is by far the fastest way from Atlanta and the most traveled way to Destin via Columbus, not Montgomery.

That route appears to take roughly the same amount of time (5 hours, 27 minutes) as going through Montgomery, and it's not significantly shorter (320 miles). Personally, I'd take the route going through Montgomery because you're on interstates most of the route and would be able to drive a bit faster. Again, the route via Montgomery is indeed a popular route to get to Destin from Atlanta. Just a quick Google search will show that it's mentioned as a viable option along with the route through Columbus:

After all, when there's no direct route to a destination and you have to rely on back roads a good bit, it makes sense to have more than one way to get there.

Also, whoever mentioned the Aflac tower standing out. I had to laugh at that one. Took a second look and eventually saw it in the distance. First thoughts were, "Is that a smoke stack?". Haha Sorry. Not a personal bash, I just get tired of all the unnecessary booster-ism that always goes on throughout the GA forums.
I thought that too. He didn't get my sarcasm though.

I'm assuming an interstate connecting between Savannah and Augusta would be traveled much more than I-16.

You sure about that? You know Atlantans take I-16 to get to Savannah right?
