"I say we're the second largest city, because no one has told me otherwise," said City Administrator Fred Russell.

The 2012 Census Estimates speaks to something different. Numbers show Augusta is no longer the second largest city in Georgia. The crown now belongs to Columbus. They've grown by 4.5 percent in just two years.

Columbus knocks Augusta out as second largest city in Georgia

Augusta commissioners can learn how to act and treat one another like human.

The article wasn't well written. Why didn't the article include population stats for Augusta and Columbus? That was basically the topic of the article. I don't think that Governmental Affairs VP Colin Martin has been to Austin to make a comment like that. Austin and Columbus aren't near the same level to be compared. Columbus has a lot less debt thought. Although Columbus is the second largest at the moment, Augusta attracted 42 new businesses and more then 2,000 jobs, while Columbus only attracted 17 new businesses and 1,000 jobs within the same time period.

Please not another thread on this subject, because Savannah is the second largest city in terms of the urban core. Columbus is consolidated with the entire county. The reporting in the article was also terrible saying both cities benefited from Brac. The only big difference is Augusta was never anticipating 20k to 30k new residents coming to metro Augusta similar to Columbus.

I didn't know Augusta felt so threaten by Columbus. And from that video alone Columbus government > Augusta government.

If savannah is the 2 largest then augusta is fourth. Which I don't think it is bad for augusta , also it take the pressure off of Augusta to live up to what a 2nd largest city suppose to look like.

We can not take things personnel when another city operate and out perform augusta for as growth.

Largest Cities(population)
1. Atlanta
2. Columbus
3. Augusta
4. Macon
5. Savannah
Savannah isn't larger than Augusta. Columbus is larger than Augusta in population, but Richmond county is larger than Muscogee. Macon is smaller than Augusta. Savannah is smaller than Macon. This is for within city limits and nothing more. It would be different for metros. Columbus is growing faster than Augusta, but Augusta attracts a lot more new businesses and jobs.
