I know there has been a lot of controversy since the merger of Georgia Health Sciences University and Augusta State, but I've been thinking, do you think Georgia Regents could become like Virginia Commonwealth University in the future. I'm not if anyone on this forum is familiar with history of this institution, but it was created in 1968 with merger of the Medical College of Virginia and the Richmond Professional Institute. I'm pretty sure the name Virginia Commonwealth wasn't all that popular when it was chosen. But nearly 50 years after that merger VCU is one of the premier universities in the nation, with 31,000 students and has done a lot when it comes to the revitalization of downtown Richmond. I hope GRU officials look at VCU as a model of what they could become in 50 years as they put together their master plan.

Here's a link to the history of VCU: Virginia Commonwealth University - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Interesting story just from the naming thing...city school name, state school name....merged state name that drops the city.

I think GRU, will become a powerhouse university if the planning is done right. I just don't think Azziz is the man for the job though.

Kinda off topic, but it looks like our neighbors in South Carolina want to merge the College of Charleston and Medical University of South Carolina.
Bill would merge College of Charleston, MUSC | The Augusta Chronicle

There're off to a bad start with that awful name "Georgia Regents U". Azziz is a boob. He seems to want a GRU presence in Atlanta more than building up the new school in Augusta.

I think GRU would do well to take its cues from UAB.
