I think the current Arena should be demolished and a giant Ferris Wheel built... That way all of the downtown folks can see the new Arena out on Gordon Highway without leaving the CBD...

It should be a regional park and research park for AU or maybe some type of theme park development coupled with a zoological center and botanical garden. I think something like that would be a better use of the property.
That will be a good way to show off south augusta than the arena. I wish it could stay downtown like Atlanta did when they built the new football stadium.

But didn't WholeAugusta say that a Cheesecake Factory was going to be built there? Maybe they can put the ferris wheel on top?

Regency mall should be converted into some kind of petting zoo/aquarium wildlife entertainment exhibit... Ofcourse this is pie in sky. But the regency mall becoming an arena could change what we consider downtown to be. It would expand downtown for just Broad and its side street. Dean bridge rd and Gordon hwy intersection is huge for the city as whole. We can't just keep dumping money into downtown when we all know its current location sucks

People seem to be forgetting that Riverwatch at I 20 was the top choice of the consulting firm hired by the the coliseum authority. Brad Usry and Cedric Johnson keep harping on how another costly study is being ignored. I agree, but they seemed content to ignore the findings of this study too to push their preferred Downtown site. If it is between the current JBA site and Regency, I give the edge to Regency IF city leaders can resolve the issues of land ownership. After listening to the mayor's press conference today it sounds like the city is negotiating an arrangement where the city would own the land where the arena would sit.

The story linked in the original post in this thread said the downtown location was the top choice based on the consulting firm's findings.

That is incorrect. Riverwatch was #1 and current JBA site was #2. Even Deke had to admit this on his radio show today. The Downtown site was not the top choice. I am just curious how many sites did they consider? Were they only given a few options or did they consider ALL possibilities? Do we really know. I really don't understand why an outside consulting firm had to be hired at $145,000 to recommend WHERE the arena would go...and I mean wow so if they really did recommend the site of the current JBA that seems like $145k down the drain regardless

If the arena get built anywhere else beside downtown. I have a feeling JBA name will be changed and I do believe that will be a good thing. Because most businesses who put there name a arena help foot the building fund. After all of that, what headquarters name from Augusta you will like see to on JBA? I like Ez-go arena it have a nice ring to it.
