City finalizes wish list for transportation sales tax (Reynolds: construction, airport)

Looks like downtown and the airport will be the focus of most of the money for Richmond County...

The 10-year, 1-cent sales tax is collected from a 13-county district and is divided up based on population. Augusta is expected to collect about 42 percent of the new tax, which could raise $630 million, Davis said.
“A little shocking,” however is that the 13 counties have submitted some $2.7 billion in projects, Davis said.
The city’s priority list includes airport hangar construction, improvements to Doug Barnard Parkway as well as Daniel Field improvements. The group agreed Friday to add five more projects at Augusta Regional and three at Daniel Field to the priority list.

Also top priority Friday was $11 million for the lock and dam, which local officials are seeking alternatives to the Army Corps of Engineers’ plan to demolish it .
The list includes around $50 million to continue the renovation of Broad Street, which is part of the ongoing first transportation sales tax, as well as upgrades to 11th, 12th, 15th, Ellis and Reynolds streets.
Also downtown, the priority list includes $25 million for water-based transportation such as ferry terminal and operations costs.
