b) spend 400K+ for a house in the suburbs
c) rent
d) live in an 900sf dump in an "anglo" area.
e) all of the above

I have to admit, I kind of admire hispanic people for not allowing themselves to be burdened with crippling mortgages, and their freedom to have large families as a result. I think Anglos should try to learn from them, or else learn to habla espagnol.

What people don't realize is that the ethnicities in Austin are extremely well blended compared to most major metros. This is what cracks me up when people are told to on a specific side of a specific boundary when moving here. I want everyone to look at the map of Austin below and point out where I-35 is - you can't because it's a blur with some hispanic areas west of 35, and anglo area east of 35. Hell, there's hispanic areas west of Mopac for that matter. What you won't see is an "8 Mile", or a "Flatbush Ave" or anything like it, so paying more to live on a certain side of something in this town is an invitation to get ripped off.
