Below is a list of SAT scores (M+V) for some districts and high schools in the Austin area. This list was inspired by a similar one I found for the Dallas-Ft. Worth area (//www.city-data.com/forum/dalla...-district.html; go to page 4 for data on individual DFW high schools).

I found this data from the Texas Education Agency's website: 2009-10 School Report Card

For this list, I averaged the class of 2008 and 2009 scores in attempt to even out large variances between years at a few of the schools.

Districts:

1199 – Eanes ISD
1111 – Lake Travis ISD

1098 – Round Rock ISD
1066 – Leander ISD
1060 – Georgetown ISD
1030 – Austin ISD
1007 – Pflugerville ISD

975 – Hutto ISD
960 – Hays CISD
949 - San Marcos CISD

878 - Del Valle ISD
864 – Manor ISD

Individual high schools:

1269 – LASA (Austin ISD)

1199 – Westlake (Eanes ISD)
1193 – Westwood (Round Rock ISD)
1151 – Anderson (Austin ISD)
1111 – Lake Travis (Lake Travis ISD)
1108 – Cedar Park (Leander ISD)
1107 – Bowie (Austin ISD)
1102 – Austin (Austin ISD)

1095 – Garza Independence (Austin ISD)
1090 – Mcneil (Round Rock ISD)
1061 – Georgetown (Georgetown ISD)
1058 – Mccallum (Austin ISD)
1058 – Round Rock (Round Rock ISD)
1051 – Vista Ridge (Leander ISD)
1018 – Hendrickson (Pflugerville ISD)
1011 – Leander (Leander ISD)
1006 – Stony Point (Round Rock ISD)
1006 – Pflugerville (Pflugerville ISD)

999 – John B. Connally (Pflugerville ISD)
975 – Hutto (Hutto ISD)
960 – Jack C. Hays (Hays CISD)
949 - San Marcos (San Marcos CISD)
917 – Lehman (Hays CISD)
911 – Crockett (Austin ISD)
910 – Akins (Austin ISD)

878 - Del Valle (Del Valle ISD)
865 – Manor (Manor ISD)

Wow, some of those are pretty pathetic to have as an average. LASA at 1269 is a pretty high average.

I agree.

BTW, the Texas SAT score average is 989, and the national average is a 1017.

Stats--schmats
Back in the dark ages, I had the highest SAT score in my class of 550 students(I never took the SAT in my senior year, however). Graduated with a B average (86th percentile), had a couple of Dean's List years in college and then dropped out for a long vacation. Went back three years later to finish with another B average.

I had established my 'do enough to get by' approach to school MANY years before I even heard of the SAT. My 'relatively' high score came as no surprise to folks who knew me well...a great surprise to those who just knew my 'stats'.

As we've already established: "There are lies, damned lies and then there are statistics."

Just sayin'.

I laugh at these things because, way back in the 1960's, my husband's class at a private school was used to "test" the SAT, it being assumed that these were kids who were all definitely scholastic material.

Only one of the entire class actually graduated college. (Of course, it WAS the 60's, and that did have something to do with it.) That one went on to be a physician, so he sort of had to. The rest went on to be quite successful in life, but there were other things more important to them than grades.

Here are some more lies, uh, I mean statistics:

Avg SAT Score (2009):

Westwood Westlake LASA

All 1193 1202 1269
Af Amer 1043 - 1074
Hispanic 1171 1099 1127
White 1167 1205 1330
Asian 1298 1249 1356

The level of variability in the white population is interesting.

So, the white kids at Westwood are relatively stupid, and perform below average compared to the rest of the school? Maybe they should bus out the white kids, so that Westwood's test scores will improve.
