These threads pop up like dandy lions in April in my backyard.

This one is barely a week old:

//www.city-data.com/forum/austi...l#post18373685

Same article cited. (which means this post should be in the Metroplex or Texas forum & not in Austin).

hound <----wishes there were more Lockhart/Luling BBQ threads to comment on instead of god awful skinny russian dressing burger threads.

It isnt the same article. It is an article about expansion throughout north texas and that they will open stores within 500 miles of the distribution center which means it wont be long before we get an austin store.

And their burgers are ok, but the fries are awesome

I don't know why In-N-Out would want to come here.

Don't get me wrong - I love a Double-Double as much as the next guy... but has anyone noticed how many places in Austin have the word Burger in the title? Mighty Fine Burger, Elevation Burger, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Sandy's Burgers, Downtown Burger, Hopdaddy Burger Bar, P Terry's Burger Stand, Burger Tex, TerraBurger, Hut's Hamburgers.... and the list goes on and on and on and on.

In California, believe it or not, a good burger is somewhat of a novelty. The state is so packed with sushi joints and organic offerings that a halfway decent burger really stands out as something unique. In Austin, you can't throw a rock without hitting a burger joint, and you can't spit without hitting a place that has a 90% meat-based menu. In California, In-N-Out is a nice alternative to many of the food options. Here, it's a poor substitute for places that really know what to do with good beef.

Yes, amen and amen!

Mighty Fine beats in-N-Out.

Here's the rub, though: for the price range, I can't match In-N-Out here in Austin.

I think if you go by pricing levels, In-N-Out can't be beat. Not yet, anyway. It's not inconceivable that someone will do it.

In-N-Out is a funny name. How many more similar names can you think of?

Pack-N-Sack
Get-It-N-Go
Stop-N-Go

I sometimes find myself wondering what's going to happen if In-N-Out and Trader Joe's DO come to Texas and all of the Texans try them and go, "Eh. Had better."

But, then, as far as food goes, I try very hard to avoid chains when possible. Much rather eat at a good Mom n Pop place that really knows their food rather than any place that tries "one size fits all".
