Hi,

Has anyone installed greywater system? How much it will cost? And what would be the approx. payback period?

I'm buying a house in Cedar Park and the builder is willing to put greywater pre-plumbing as City would not approve full working system. Builder says it would cost $1300. Is it worth doing it now or can we do it later? What would be the whole system cost with and without pre-plumb?

thanks!

What would a greywater system accomplish for you? I'm not familiar with this as a decision item in the building of a home.

Default greywater system

I actually represent a company that makes greywater recycling systems. most people think of using greywater for irrigation, but this company recommends using it to flush toilets. If you think about it, why are we wasting so much valuable drinking water flushing our toilets. If you re-used greywater to flush your toilets, you would reduce your internal water consumption by 30% to 40%. One of these days systems like this will be required. If you want to know more about the system that I represent, our website is www.ecopathproducts.com

Thanks,

We have a greywater system in our house for our washer, but (a) it's out in the country and (b) it was already in place when we moved in, so I have no idea as to the cost.

It's certainly a good way to get more use out of the water, and it's less of a strain on our septic system and in the city would be a good way of avoiding pouring water that could be re-used (for irrigation) into the city system.

I wish I saw this before I had my home built. It would have been a snap to have the plumbing setup.

I am interested in grey water irrigation systems so if anyone has info on that, I would appreciate it.

Actually, we use it to water a particular part of our pasture up near the house (it runs a fair way underground) where the horses congregate. Makes nice green grass when there isn't any anywhere else, and saves us from using city or well water (we had both until the drought) that could better be used for other things.
