Hi everyone,

My car's A/C is out and I need to have some repairs done. The condenser to evaporator line has a hole in it, and needs to be replaced. I've had the job quoted as 7-8 hours of shop labor, and now am just checking to see if anyone has any recommendations of where to take it.

It's a 2002 Lincoln LS in case that makes a difference.

Obviously cheaper is better, but it needs to be done right too.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

I know one up in Round Rock area. Haven't got my car done with him, but most of colleagues (atleast 20-25) get the cars maintained through him. DM if you need his information.

I would also suggest to stay away from Firestone @ William Cannon Road. Those morons are there just to rip you off. I was there once for oil change and the salesman sold me to change cabin air filter and wipers. I don't know why, but I asked him if I can have the old ones.

Couple weeks later, I was hearing some noise from rear passenger side wheel. I took it to them for estimate and they said the struts need to be changed and quoted $700..!! My car has just 60K on it and normally struts don't go bad for 100-125K if you are a average driver. I took it to Sears, and the mechanic was honest and said the struts are definitely not in best condition but I can easily postpone them by atleast 1-1.5 yrs. And the quote was $250. I showed him old cabin air filter and wipers (told him, I manually changed it, so I can get honest opinion) and he had there was no need to change wipers. They were as good as the ones I had on the car and cabin air filter had another good 1 yr left on it..!!

You can try this Sears too, its the one located on E 41st St.

We love Juke Automotive on Shady Lane in central Austin. I got his name off of Yelp after lots of positive remarks.

This might not help you because they mostly deal in Asian cars, but Dealership Alternative on north Lamar (by Braker) has always treated me right. They used to be HondAcura down on 183 by the comedy club.

Gene Johnson Automotive on Manor road has always been fair and affordable. In fact, on more than one occasion, they have suggested that they NOT fix what we wanted fix and instead fix something else that was cheaper and more part of the problem.
I don't know many mechanics that would voluntarily suggest charging less.

Tony

Lugnuts Automotive on Manchaca Rd. Took my truck in for AC repair...Toyota couldn't figure out was wrong despite taking it to two different dealerships. Patrick had it figured out in 45 minutes and done that day. Everything I've had done since has been at least 50% cheaper than the dealership.
