All: My Wife, Son, and I will most likely be relocated to Houston in about a year for work from Colorado. We are thinking about buying a second home in Austin to use on the weekends (below $400K). We both ride bikes and would like to be close to down town. One area I keep seeming to be looking at is just south of Barton Creek and north of the Southwest Parkway (by the Regents school). When I search zillow/trulia it shows up as East Oak Hill, but from what I have seen on these forums, Oak Hill is more to the south.

SO:

1. Any insight on the area? (nice neighborhoods, well kept, mostly owned/occupied or rentals, real estate predictions climbing/falling).

Thanks for any insights you can provide!!!!

Sounds like Travis Country or right next to it, its an excellent neighborhood. Barton Creek neighborhood just to the north is very wealthy, lots of expensive homes. Barton Creek Wilderness Park to the NE will protect that area from future development. There are a fair number of apartments South of SW parkway around William Cannon but they are pretty well maintained areas. Demographic data is skewed by both of those areas.

It is close to good shopping and restaurants at Sunset Valley and Barton Creek Mall. Has good access to downtown via Mopac, and the airport & hospitals via Hwy 71/290

I have lived in Oak Hill area for 30 years. I expect development along the south side of Southwest Parkway will continue to be office parks and apartments, with higher priced homes along the north side.

Default Yeah I think you are right about it being Travis County

The RE listings call it Travis County (the area is off of Travis County Circle).

Thanks for the info--any other opinions out there?

Thanks,

Tim

That is Travis Country and Travis Country Circle, both with an "r". Both are inside of Travis County, no "r".

There is an HOA for the original Travis Country. http://www.traviscountry.com/traviscountry/page.html
