This map is based on the 2010 census. Each dot represents 25 people, and each color a different race. Red is White, Blue is Black, Green is Asian, Orange is Hispanic, and Yellow is Other. I found these maps fascinating.



Info-graphs of this data have been created for all of the major American cities, showing stark segregation has not faded in nearly all American cities. I think those charts can be interpreted in a number of ways, some misleading.

What some call segregation might also be called concentration. Do these groupings based on race exist because of institutional forces? How much of it is self-selection of where they live?

And looking at the data without knowing the economics of each area prevents you from seeing the likely real reason groups of people live in certain areas.

is there a map that is easier to read? i'd like to know more about where the eskimos live. i'm thinking of starting an igloo building business.
