Ugh - I just got my HO insurance renewal and it went up $200. It went up $200 last year b/c I lost the claim free discount due to the 2009 hail storm.

I'm with USAA which I love b/c their customer service and claims service are awesome but maybe it's not worth it now b/c I'm paying so much. I also have a $1000 deductible for all perils including hail so I may have to bite the bullet and go to 1% deductible.

My renewal is for $332,000 with $1000 deductible and the premium is $1705. USAA just had an outside company to calculate how much it would cost to rebuild my house at a total loss and they came up with $233,000 so I don't know why they didn't lower my coverage limits to match it on my renewal.

Can someone share with me how much you pay for HO insurance, coverage amount, deductible amount and the company you are with.

Thanks

$575/yr with Texas Farm Bureau. I too had my roof replaced from the 2009 hail storm in late March of that year. Got the roof replaced, totally covered and I even ended up getting some money for myself out of it all. I don't think I paid any sort of deductible. I think my insurance went up about $20-30 because of it. No biggie. They cover my car too.

State Farm $250,000 structure, $1,150 premium/year, with $1,500 deductible.

Part of your premium pays for things besides just insuring the structure, such as $300,000 liability if someone gets hurt on your property, also contents insurance.

I just got a quote from state farm and it came to $1452 but with a 1% deduct ( or $3320). So maybe my USAA $1705 with $1000 isn't so bad

I have been with them for 30 years, maybe that is why my rate is so much lower.

$432 from Geico for $222k. I upped some of the liability stuff to well beyond the basic too. Also upped the contents coverage too. Our deductible is $1000. I got a quote once from USAA and I was stunned at how high their prices are. No amount of customer service is worth paying double for insurance.

Texas Farm Bureau - I couldn't get an online quote with them for homeowners ins. Their Auto insurance was $200 a year more than USAA.

Safeco - Homeowners quote was $1065. Which is $700 less wow! But that was $1000 deductible on all perils except hail which would be $3332. Their auto is $150 cheaper a year than USAA. Thanks orngkat!

Geico - Their homeowners insurance quote was $1460/year with $1000 deductible on all perils. Same price as State Farm but with much lower deductible. And it's $240 lower than USAA. AND - their auto is $300 less than USAA a year. Savings of $540 a year! Thanks XLadylaxX

Great timing! We renew next month and got a couple of un-solicited "quotes" from different Farmers agents...there is almost a 50% difference in the two quotes from the same company! Of course, these are 'estimates' shot-gunned out to anyone reaching the anniversary of their home purchase, I reckon.

Called Watkins Insurance...independent agents who will shop for the best value/coverage among their dozen or more vendors. That's what we did three years ago and went with The Hartford. One roof claim, which was handled reasonably, and our premiums went up close to 30% a full year later. The 'shop around' resulted in a broader coverage policy from Kemper that is about 20% less than Hartford(quote is based on home and auto coverage...auto looks to be about 20% less, also).

Bottom line is $926 for the 'broadened' coverage and 'dwelling value' of $494K. 1% deductible across the board.

By the bye, these rates are much lower than our premiums in Sandy Springs(north of Atlanta) on a 50 year-old house worth 1/2 as much and vehicles MUCH less expensive than the ones we have now. Works for us!

Thanks 10scoachrick. I'll give them a call and see what they come up with. Looks like I'm saying bye bye to USAA.
