I've been looking at some new builds by Drees and by Taylor Morrison. Anybody have any glowing references - or horror stories - about these builders? Thanks!

Default I have heard good things about both

Sorry I don't have much to offer, but I have heard good things about both, I don't think that you can go wrong with either,

Our house is a Morrison. We have no complaints. Everyone I know with a Drees home has been happy as well.

Have a Drees - no issues at all. Enjoyed the build process.

Have a 2004 Drees. Some obvious 'upgrades' in materials and workmanship vs some other builders. However, the kitchen granite/sink install was not up to the quality of the rest of the house...not sure what happened there. Not sure who picked out the higher-end light fixtures in the master and one guess bath(400 watts of halogen light in the master PLUS can lights...150 watts of halogen in one guest bath--at $10 per 'lamp' replacement cost --eleven 'lamps' in total).

The Drees homes in our part of Avery Ranch seem to be highly regarded by owners and neighbors.

If you could afford a Drees, why even complain about light bulbs? lol

Interesting question. Since the home wasn't built for us(we got it four years later), we weren't there to insist on energy efficient fixtures and systems. It's a real waste(IMO) to have 5-600 watts of juice lighting up a bathroom or 21 'can' lights(120w ea) throughout the home. We've been changing out the lamps as necessary(switching to 27w CFLs vs 120w incandescent); but the high-end bath lighting requires the expensive, energy-wasting, heat generating halogen lamps. We'd rather not waste the energy $ on electricity and the A/C cost to then cool the room from the heat generated.

Fortunately, the water-heating system is more 'efficient' and the house is very well insulated(not to mention the large trees shading the east and west sides). Just seems the design folks threw out the 'efficiency handbook' when they chose the lighting fixtures for our house.

We don't use the energy-hogging fixtures very often...I was just pointing out an inconsistency in the 'finish-out' of our Drees home. Whether it was builder-driven or buyer-chosen, some of the design aspect resulted in wasteful choices, energy-wise.

I'd rather spend the 'energy' dollars on water for our trees.

Affording a Drees home has no connection on lamps. He is right. Non energy efficient lamps are simple waste. He knows what he is doing and hence he can afford Drees ;-). ( Affluent people are mostly misers - in a good way)
