I have been calling around to find a wireless home monitoring company. Does anyone have Smith Monitoring? They are apparently local to Austin and charge only $17.95/month with free installation and activation. I also liked the Sloan, no contract, deal, but have read some negative reviews. Thoughts??

Sloan is a small family operation. $120/yr for monitoring, paid annually. Setup is normally $60 to $120 if everything is in good shape and compatible.

Service is somewhat "country". The bad reviews don't surprise me. Friendly people, but not polished or overly impressive in communication and followup.

That said, the call center that does the actual monitoring in San Antonio is the same one used by the big name providers. So once the setup is on and working, it's a really sweet deal at $120/yr. I recommend them if you're a bit "service tolerant" and want a really good annual monitoring price.

I DON'T recommend using for setup/wiring if you're system is anything other than plug and play. In that case, I'd hire someone else to get the wiring straightened out first, then call Sloan for the setup and monitoring.

When I researched it, all the monitoring facilities are not in Austin. They are all tapped into the local police so I don't think it matters that much at least IMHO.
