Does anyone have experience with either of these schools? Any comments or recommendations for either? What is their reputation in the community? I haven't found much online and am fairly new to the area.

Yes, I have visited the school but am wanting to hear from someone who might have direct experience with their community

Thank you for your input.

The academics are pretty strong but so is the religious doctrine (no evolution taught etc). They are very Lutheran! (Missouri Synod too). If you are comfortable with that you should be fine.

Redeemer is probably a bit stronger school for K-8th than St. Paul's. Concordia is small for a high school, they are trying to grow.

I agree with Centralaustinite.

Good schools, very LCMS. St. Pauls is pretty small, Redeemer seems a bit larger for both school and congregation.

My wife went to St Paul K-8. Evolution was taught then. She moved to the Anderson IB program for high school with no problems.

I think that they (LCMS) have gotten more hard core! They do teach evolution as a theory but they have Christian doctrine taught alongside, i.e. creationism. They have lost students over this stance and I've seen the question of how they teach evolution asked directly to Concordia staff.

Well, that is all good to know. When I visited I didn't get that feel, in fact the director said (unsolicited) that they're not trying to indoctrinate and create little Lutherans (I'm paraphrasing).

I was attracted to it for middle school for my oldest because of the small class size, Champions program (intervention/TAG) and low cost, not the religious instruction.

That sounds a bit extreme for us. Centralaustinite - is this recently you heard about this happening?

This was a year ago, perhaps they are backing off a bit. I do know a couple of families who are not Lutheran who have kids in St. Pauls and Concordia precisely for what you mention, small classes and low cost. But they admit that not everyone can do it -- handle being in the minority when it comes to religion, politics, social issues, etc. So it is really a personal decision. You have to decide what you are comfortable with.

good luck

Going off the top of my head...I think she would've started K in '84 or '85 and she went through 8th grade.
