You mean when the hippies came along? Like I said? Or is that when all the liberal California's started showing up, as mimimomx3 is saying?

From about 1970 till about the new millenium Austin was not "conservative" by the typical definition of the word (anti-government, anti-tax, pro-religion, anti-gay, anti-woman). So I think it's silly to pretend that Austin was some conservative haven until the Californians cashed out on the housing bubble and started moving here.

The hippy capitol of Texas was conservative. Okay.
I think Austin has always been a 'laissez faire' kind of conservative, as in you do your thing, I'll do mine, which is what TRUE conservatism is all about. It's NOT about legislating from the left or the right. I see California as a place that legislates from the left, that kind of liberalism. I'm not really keen on the folks from the 'neo conservative' states that legislate and control from the right, either. I like to live and let live. Eat meat, don't eat meat, marry whoever you want, wear seatbelt, or not, whatever, don't expect me to pay for your choices.

That's not "conservative", that's extreme. And anti-women? LOL, is that like pre-suffrage era, or worse?

See, you are not really understanding what CLASSIC conservatism is all about. What you are describing is NEO conservatism. Conservatism in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I remember the early 90's!

Geeeez.

Homes were being built and sold in the 65,000-90,000 range. Nice David Weekly, homes in NW Austin. If you rented, a nice 3 bedroom up to 2000sq.ft. $450-550 a month

All the sudden ½ of Simi Valley sells their crackerjack homes there for $500,000 and come here and buy 2 and 3 homes, 1 to live in and one as a rental property.

Home prices and rents skyrocketed. By 2000, rents for the same home, $1500-$2000 a month and home prices for the same house $250,000.

Ron Paul is Classic Conservatism.

Religious Neocons out for a holy war, need not apply.

It isn't so much anti Cali, it is anti-stop getting bigger and bigger....

I miss the 1970's Austin!

Well, more power to you. You know I don't agree with your political views, but you are consistent, I will give you that.

I really wish that there were actual CLASSIC conservatives out there, as you describe it. They seem to be be like bigfoot though. Everyone CLAIMS to have seen one, but They certainly don't run for office, I'll tell you that.

As I have said to you before, since my only 2 choices are the liberals and the NEO conservatives, I'll take the liberals. But since the NEO conservatives bother you less than the tax-and-spend liberals, I can see why an influx of liberals would bother you and lead to a slight anti-californian sentiment.

He's a neo conservative. Texas may be like Santorum in some parts, certainly, but Austin, up until the 90s, was much more like a libertarian kind of conservative, live and let live.
